2021 Paolo Manzone Barbaresco 'San Guiliano' DOCG

This Serralunga-based producer, bottling its own wine for around 25 years, has made a Barbaresco in the San Giuliano cru of Neive since 2008. It is a little quiet to begin, having aged 24 months in 15hl Slavonian botti, with perfumed innuendos of quinine, ginger and cinnamon over tar-edged red mulberry and marasca cherry fruit. The entry is dark and plush, its opacity reasonably well offset by acidity, delivering generous helpings of raspberry and dark mulberry fruit on the mid-palate. Tannins assert themselves from the middle onwards, a little gravelly though not dry, rolling away by the finish to leave behind traces of raspberry and bramble. Drink 2026-2039.
