Friulano is an excellent indigenous white variety of Friuli in Italy’s North. Ronco del Gnemiz keep three special old vine parcels separate off their 'San Zuan' vineyard and the resultant wine always has a lovely cool mineral character. The 2019 is a wine that drinks so well on release but also will develop beautifully with 5-10 years bottle age. This is a dry white of great depth, texture and class. It has complex aromatics of lemon, rockmelon, white peach and floral spice. There’s perfect shape in the mouth, with layers of flavour and a finish that oozes minerality.
Eric Guido on Vinous notes that it “tapers off with mouthwatering salty tension” and says “ it should be absolutely irresistible” after a year’s bottle age. It absolutely over-delivers and is right up there with the very finest of white wines of Italy. JH 2021
